Zero New Year’s DUI arrests in four Indiana counties
Make the Promise
Eyewitness News has learned some surprising information regarding the number of people here in the Tri-State cited for driving under the influence after last night’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Last night we reported on Logan’s Promise, a local organization dedicated to eliminating drunk driving which was founded after the tragic death of Logan Brown when his car was hit by a driver with four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The organization partnered with River City Yellow Cab to offer free New Year’s Eve cab rides in four Indiana Counties through the “Safe Rides” program.
Today, founder Charles Brown announced that in those four counties — Vanderburgh, Gibson, Warrick and Posey — there were zero DUI arrests last night and early this morning. Brown said the results are encouraging, but more work needs to be done.
“Our goal is to keep people safe, and to see that everybody could commit to it for one night is truly a testament to the community and now the real challenge is to carry that on,” Brown said. “We can do it for one day, [but] how about tomorrow? Let’s begin a streak and let’s begin to do things differently.”
In addition, Sgt. Todd Ringle with Indiana State Police announced that Evansville troopers made zero arrests last night, and only eight were made statewide.
